Developing cutting-edge powertrain systems for cars presents many technical challenges – challenges that Bosch relishes and masters. Its declared aim is to increase fuel efficiency and engine performance while reducing emissions.
This requires the development of innovative systems and components that interact effectively. New combustion technologies, improved auxiliaries, mechanisms for capturing braking energy, efficient temperature management, and start/stop systems are just some examples. Thanks to these and other technologies, it will soon be possible to create a diesel car with a 100 KW engine that can travel 100 kilometres on just three litres – corresponding to just 80 grams of CO2 per kilometre.
In addition, we continue to work on the advancement of vehicle electrification, leveraging our findings in our own product range. The first hybrid vehicles featuring Bosch technology will go into volume production in early 2010, and will offer fuel savings of approximately 25 percent. Lithium-ion batteries will be market-ready in 2011.
